Mary Beard being splendid on Twitter and abuse in the Torygraph.


To borrow an analogy from legionseagle , she's a Bendicks Easter Bunny who doesn't think the rest of us should be similarly robust, but rather that her strength should be used to make online life better for the thinner-shelled bunnies.

I suspect that Beard has a good deal of pre-internet experience of being belittled for her gender, and knows well that ignoring them doesn't make them go away - ah, and I see from her article that she has! I have a great deal of time for her even when I don't agree with her (of course in this case, I do).
